Knee Pain

Knee pain refers to discomfort, soreness, or pain experienced in the knee joint, which is the complex hinge joint that connects the thigh bone (femur) to the shin bone (tibia) and the smaller bone in the lower leg (fibula). Knee pain can range from mild to severe and may result from a variety of factors, such as injuries, overuse, inflammation, degenerative conditions, or underlying medical issues.

Common causes of knee pain include ligament injuries (like ACL tears), meniscus tears, tendinitis, bursitis, arthritis (osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis), and patellofemoral pain syndrome. The pain can be localized to the knee or may radiate to the surrounding areas, such as the thigh or calf.

Knee pain might limit mobility, make walking or bending difficult, and impact daily activities and sports participation. Accurate diagnosis is important to determine the specific cause of the pain and guide appropriate treatment. Treatment options can include rest, ice, pain-relieving medications, physical therapy, exercises to strengthen the muscles supporting the knee, supportive devices like braces, and in more severe cases, surgical procedures to address the underlying issue causing the pain.
