Carpal Pain

Carpal pain refers to discomfort, soreness, or pain experienced in the wrist area, specifically around the carpal bones and the structures within the carpal tunnel. The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway in the wrist through which the median nerve and tendons pass. Carpal pain is often associated with conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome, which occurs when there is pressure on the median nerve as it passes through this tunnel.

Carpal pain can be caused by repetitive movements, overuse, inflammation, trauma, or underlying medical conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. The pain might be felt as a dull ache, tingling, numbness, or even a sharp shooting sensation in the wrist and possibly radiate up the forearm or down into the fingers, especially the thumb, index, and middle fingers.

Carpal pain can impact hand movements and grip strength, making activities that involve the use of the hand and wrist uncomfortable or painful. Proper diagnosis is crucial to determine the underlying cause, and treatment options may include rest, wrist splints to relieve pressure, anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, and in some cases, surgery to address the issue causing the pain.
